Education and Outreach Programs
of the Chamber Music Society of Detroit
For the 20 years, Chamber Music Society ensembles have visited classrooms in schools all across Southeast Michigan: from Central Detroit to the suburbs, from Pontiac to Downriver communities. Now reaching over 10,000 children each year, the Chamber Music Society of Detroit has become one of Metro Detroit's largest providers of in-school classical music performances, taking great professional music-making to places where students actually live and learn.
The Chamber Music Society of Detroit’s educational outreach programs are a key part of its mission to enrich the educational and cultural life of the community. The goals of these programs are to:
- provide quality musical experiences for young people;
- partner with public, private and charter schools to supplement current music programs;
- expand collaborations with community organizations to reach greater numbers of disadvantaged young people, particularly in inner-city communities and communities without access to live arts experiences;
- encourage long-term concert attendance by young people;
- provide world-class instruction for emerging instrumental students; and
- provide inspiring role models for students of all ages and backgrounds.
Whether you are a student or teacher; grandparent, parent or child; or simply a person interested in a brighter future for classical music in our community, we invite you to explore the links on the left to learn more about the educational programs of the Chamber Music Society of Detroit - Get Involved Today!
Meet Faith Scholfield!
Faith Scholfield is the new Education Program Coordinator with the Chamber Music Society of Detroit. She plays Second Oboe & English horn with the Windsor Symphony Orchestra (Windsor, Canada), a position she has held since September 2004. She regularly performs throughout southwestern Ontario and southeastern Michigan and maintains private teaching studios in both Windsor and Livonia, Michigan.
In addition to her performing and teaching, Faith is the Education & Outreach Manager for the Windsor Symphony Orchestra, the Concert Manager and Special Instructor of Oboe at the University of Windsor School for Arts and Creative Innovation, and the Workshop Coordinator of the AVANTI Summer MusicFest. Her new position with the Chamber Music Society of Detroit completes a portfolio of activities that makes her one of the leading educational resources in our region.
Faith received her Master’s of Music in Oboe Performance from the University of Michigan in 2006, a student of Nancy Ambrose King. She received her Bachelor’s of Music and Performance Certificate in Oboe from the Eastman School of Music in 2004, a student of Richard Killmer. Faith has previously performed with the Macau Orchestra (China) and at the Aspen Music Festival and Banff Centre for the Arts.
Outside of work, Faith loves gardening (though she says she’s quite horrible at it), learning how to do home renovations (and then paying someone else to fix her mistakes), and playing with her three cats.
