Steve Wogaman, Piano

In-School Visiting Artist

Various Dates Throughout the Season

Steve Wogaman joined the Chamber Music Society of Detroit in 2011 becoming only the fourth President in the history of the organization.  Prior to this he served for seven years as the chief executive of the Allentown Symphony Orchestra and then the Canton Symphony Orchestra in Canton, Ohio.  Stephen Wogaman has performed as piano recitalist, chamber musician and teaching artist throughout the eastern United States, as well as Spain and Central America.  As pianist of the Whitney Trio, he made his performing debut in 1989 in a live broadcast concert at the National Gallery of Art in his home town of Washington D.C.   He trained at the Eastman School of Music, the University of Louisville and the Indiana University School of Music, where he completed a Doctor of Music degree.

Program Information

Program scheduling – Unlike the other residency programs of the CMSD, these piano based programs will not be limited to tightly scheduled ensemble residencies, and thus will be available to schools at odd times, or whenever the CMSD determines that there is a need for more programs.  Piano moving logistics will limit these programs to a strict maximum of two buildings per day, with a preference for one building per day. Programs will be scheduled to accommodate up to 150 to 250 students.

Program preparation – The CMSD will provide artist biographies, chamber music glossary, and when possible a recording of program repertoire.

Program follow up and evaluation – Schools will be asked to complete a program evaluation that measures the students’ reactions to program, teacher and administration support and allows for written comments.

Participation fee – $750 half day (up to two sessions), $1,250 full day (three to four sessions).  Limited scholarships to defray program costs are available.  For details, please contact Brian Meter, Education Program Coordinator, (248)985-0065 or Brian.Meter@ChamberMusicDetroit.org.
